Happy Easter!

Chocolate Labrador Bunny Rabbit
The Lab Brats and family want to wish one and all a very Happy Easter! May your day be filled with sunshine and your baskets be plenty!

We didn't have a picture of the Lab Brats with bunny ears so we thought we would borrow a picture of the Lab Brats' biological daddy looking Easter cute from our breeder. Yes, that is really their sire, Sam - not Dakota. :)

Vacation Day

Chocolate Lab SleepingThe Lab Brats are on vacation today; sprawled out in the sun and still recovering from a hectic Christmas Eve with a ton of family in their house.

However, the Lab Brats did want me to let everyone know they are doing quite well today and enjoyed the Christmas holiday greatly. Not only did they get new collars, 2ft long rawhide bones in the shape of a candy cane, and a new squeaky toy but their grandpa got them more rawhide chews, a giant Frisbee, and a pet ornament kit that we can make with their own paw prints. Two very spoiled Labrador Retrievers on one very special holiday.

So, as they continue to recover from full bellies and the tons of love and attention that was showered on them for the last couple of day, they feel it only right for their mommy to rest as well... and that I will...

A Lab Brats Merry Christmas!

Dakota: Chocolate Lab pup wearing moose antlersTonight will be a blessed but hectic night for the Lab Brats family. This evening we will be hosting a Christmas Party at our house with our closest 25 family members and friends in attendance.

Dakota and Cheyenne have no idea what is going on. What they do know is that mommy has been cooking up a storm and the Lab Brats are tasting the most wonderful things ever to come out of the kitchen. They don't know what they did to deserve all the wonderful smells and tastes; they just know that this is the best time of year.

On top of that, they seem to know already which presents are theirs. Cheyenne has taken a liking to barking at the large rawhide candy canes on the wall and sniffing her stocking full of presents from grandpa every so often. Dakota wants what is in the Christmas bag; for behold was a new Cuz and she knows it is all hers!

So as the Lab Brats now rest at my feet before the flood of beloved family and friends arrive, I thought it only fitting to wish our wonderful online readers...

May you and your Labs have a very Merry and Blessed Christmas... and too all good dogs a new squeaky toy!

Dakota's Christmas Depression

Dakota: Chocolate Lab wearing a Santa's hatWe are bad doggy parents!

How dare we set up the Christmas tree in front of the big window in the living room. Don't we know that this is Dakota's "perch" to watch the people passing by on the sidewalk, to use for alerting us that the mailman cometh, and to get the majority of her sunspots? Worse yet - this is where Dakota's sauna is!

What's Dakota's "sauna"? Well, it is a 8ft long heating vent that goes along our 8ft huge living room picture window. Dakota's favorite spot if you will. And our Christmas tree is dead center of the window and blocking a majority of her access to the heating vent "sauna". Oh sure, she made do for a few weeks by curling into a ball on either side of the tree and at least getting 1ft of the heating vent. But now we have gone and done the worse thing imaginable; we put Christmas presents around the tree and Dakota can't even get to the window nor get to an inch of her "sauna".

So, she keeps looking at her favorite spot (that is now occupied by a 7ft tree) and looking back at us with her Sad Sam eyes. It is doggy depression at its worse - Dakota depression. What bad doggy parents we are! How dare we interfere with the serene life of a Labrador Retriever! (laugh)

(Thank goodness we take the tree down January 6th - for Dakota's sake.)

Happy Easter!

The Lab Brats and family wish everyone a happy and blessed Easter!

On a side note: I looked at the clip this morning from the news and they didn't use the footage with Dakota & Cheyenne on it! They used the cute little yellow Lab puppy and some other dog. Heck, they didnt even use the footage of the sign in the front of the daycare that I saw him taking. The clip lasted all of 5 seconds...

But I am not going to give up! I will be contacting the station today to see if they can email me the video clip of the girls that they didnt use. Let's keep our paws crossed!

Lab Brats on TV Tonight!

The Lab Brats had a blast at the Doggy Easter Egg Hunt today! The frigid cold and snow couldn't stop them and they just had to show off enough to get the attention of one of the local news station camera guys. Yep! He did a close up of our girls eating their huge edible doggy Easter eggs they found during the event - and I mean CLOSE UP! He probably even got some drool on his camera during their chowing down on the eggs! As he walked away, he said "Thank you - they will be on CBS 58 News at Ten tonight." Woo hoo! The Lab Brats will be television stars on the news tonight. So, everyone in the Milwaukee area, watch the news at 10 o'clock tonight and you should see our precious chocolate Labs!

Not to worry for those that can't watch it, we will be recording it on the DVR tonight and see about getting it posted soon. We are just so excited - it was well worth braving the freezing cold!

Happy Easter!

Fireworks and Labrador Retrievers

KEEPING YOUR LAB SAFE DURING THE CELEBRATIONS
Independence Day and similar holidays are supposed to be a time for celebration, so why is your Lab not celebrating? Fireworks! Sure, they are pretty and give us a warm feeling of independence, but these big boomers are nothing to bark at! Some Labrador Retrievers actually enjoy the festivities and are able to stay next to their owners without flinching. However, most Labs would rather have nothing to do with the elaborate colors and ground-shaking boomers. For them, there is no place too small in which they cannot squeeze into in order to get as far away from the 4th of July celebrations as possible. This is why we have comprised a list of hints to help your Lab get through the day (and night) with as little stress as possible. [more]
