Not Early Risers
It is so strange how a change in human schedule effects a dog's life.
Over the last couple of days, my husband and I have been getting up at 4:45am to be at the gym before we need to get working. No problem when you have an alarm but a problem when the alarm wakes the dogs and they know that 4:45am and 5:30am are not the same time.
Sure, Cheyenne is confused but still remains happy to see us first thing in the morning. Dakota, on the other hand, is livid! See, she is not a morning dog at all and although she has been getting her tail out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off, she sulks around the house and gives us the most menacing of looks. It is like "Why in bloody hell have you gotten me up so early in the morning? There aren't even any sun spots to lay in yet. This is a trick - I know it!"
On top of that, they haven't been getting their morning walks (which Dakota really doesn't want to go on but does anyway) because it is way too early. Needless to say, the Lab Brats daddy and I have decided to begin going to the gym at night now because I fear that one day Dakota will lay across my face while I am sleeping - just to make sure I can't hear the alarm go off.

Funnily enough this is something I was talking about with doggy friends recently. My two (a lab & a bichon) love it when we wake up alarm or not whatever time. They're so glad to see us, and after a fuss they both want breakfast. Annoyingly, after a quick toilet trip to the garden, they then curl up on the dog sofa and fall asleep again - while we are awake for the day. Many of my friends' dogs don't like to wake up, and one Greyhound owner has to turn his bed up on end to "encourage" him out! Takes all sorts!
